Murray Sinclair - Senator Murray Sinclair, whose spirit name is Mizhana Gheezhik (The One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky), died November 4, 2024 in hospital surrounded by family. A sacred fire has been lit in his honour on the grounds of the Manitoba legislature. Out of respect for his journey for the next few days, the family has asked that others across the country not light any other fires for him. In recognition of the important work he has done, including bringing to light the traumatic experiences of Indigenous peoples and the importance education plays in fostering understanding and healing, the Saanich School District will be lowering flags to half-mast on the day of his funeral or service.
